Cordless Shades and Blinds Keep Children and Pets Safe
There are lots of options for cordless shades and blinds
Custom window treatments should be beautiful without sacrificing safety. Cordless shades and blinds offer both.
Do you have young children or grandchildren? What about pets that could get tangled up in cords?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission calls corded window coverings one of the top five hidden hazards in American homes. Infants, children, and pets can accidentally become entangled in window blind cords.
Put blind cord safety at the top of your child proofing checklist.
Are Your Cordless Shades and Blinds Safe?
Do your cordless shades and blinds have a Certified Best for Kids endorsement?
The new Best for Kids™ certification program was launched by The Window Coverings Manufacturing Association (WMCA).
The goal is to assist in educating consumers about potential window-cord hazards facing young children so that consumers can make the right choice when selecting window coverings.
How Do Cordless Shades and Blinds Become Certified for Safety?
In order to be eligible for this certification, manufacturers must meet the specified program criteria and submit their window covering products to a designated third party testing laboratory. Once products pass testing they may be labeled “Best for Kids”.
Products that qualify for “Best for Kids” have one or more of the following features:
- no cords
- no operating cords and inner cords that are not accessible
- if accessible inner cords are present in products with no operating cords, the accessible inner cords cannot create a hazardous loop
Norman Offers Many “Best For Kids” Options for Cordless Shades and Blinds
Norman, a company I work with quite often and who’s products I love and recommend, has a very short and informative video on their products that are certified for safety.
Custom Made Safe and Cordless Roman Shades
I work with Norman because I believe in their products. I also create custom Roman shades that are also compliant with the industry specifications for child safety. I have children, even though they are grown now, and I have pets. So I understand the concern for ensuring the safety of those I love and care about.
